It’s a speedway bonanza this Saturday night at the Robertson Prestige International Speedway when the Stockcar drivers pair up for the Humphries Steel & Performance Stockcar Best Pairs title, plus there’s the AFC Motorcycles Ray Tarrant Sidecar Memorial, opening round of the Oval Superstars Minisprint Tour, Saloon Cup and throw in the Midgets and what a night of entertainment you have!
Pairing the Stockcar drivers up will bring out all the tactics - with one runner and one blocker it will be anybody’s guess who will play the most critical role in the dynamic duos. The Stockcar drivers enjoy this style of championship so there is no doubt that there will be plenty of action for the fans! Theres nothing better than exciting Stockcar racing!
The Ray Tarrant Memorial trophy should draw an excellent field of Sidecars from far and wide. Ray was the announcer here at the Speedway for many years and was an ardent supporter of Sidecars. He was also instrumental in putting together the sponsorship package with 2XS in 1980, which over time has morphed into More FM. With the North Island and New Zealand Sidecar Championships coming up on the calendar later in the season, there is no doubt the quality of the Sidecar racing is going to exciting new heights and this memorial title is always hotly contested.
The Minisprints will be racing side by side in the first round of the Oval Superstars Tour for the 2023/24 season, with a quality field of drivers its anyone’s guess who will take the top honour and get an early lead in the Series. After a successful outing last weekend, ones to watch include 1nzp Elliot Heron and 2nzp Daniel Nickel followed closely by 8p Nathan Jefferies, 54p Jayden Williams and 63p Mike Salton.
Saloons add to a packed show at the Robertson Prestige International Speedway in the form of Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs racing wheel-to-wheel for the Saloon Cup. The wide tyres and fragile fibreglass bodies add another style of speedway racing which is proving popular not only with drivers but the spectators alike.
