The days are getting longer and that can only mean one thing - speedway is back! After a wet winter the 2019/20 season at Robertson Holden International Speedway commences this Saturday, October 19 at 6:30pm.
The midnight oil is being burned in sheds and workshops all over the country, as competitors and crews race to be ready for the summer ahead. Consequently, opening night visitors are already confirmed from as far afield as Nelson and Auckland, along with plenty of locals who will be determined to keep the prizemoney out of their hands.
It's double points night, which is an excellent chance for competitors to get some early runs on the board in the Travel Smart Season Points Chase. Points are awarded for a top six placing in every non-championship race throughout the season, and overall victory in any of the classes is a major achievement, and a tribute to a driver's consistency throughout the season.
Classes in action are Superstocks, Stockcars, Sprintcars, Minisprints, Sidecars and both Adult & Youth Ministocks, with Fireworks closing out the show. Admission prices are $25 for an adult (16 years and over), $10 for children aged 8-15, and $60 for a family pass of 2 adults and up to four children. Kids aged 7 and under are FREE.
