A Derby Teams racing extravaganza this Saturday night at the Robertson Prestige International Speedway with something to cater for everyone in the family! The Peter Barry Memorial Derby Teams Champs featuring hard-charging Demolition Derby car teams racing; it’ll be survival of the fittest, fastest and bravest to make it through to the final.
Peter Barry was a hard hitting Stockcar driver who sadly passed away in 2009. His humble beginnings in derby-car teams racing are honoured by the annual Peter Barry Memorial Derby Teams Champs, which has steadily grown in popularity! Each team has five Demolition Derby cars on track at a time, with a skilled driver managing to balance speed, hitting and car conservation to end up on top of the pile at the end of a tough night’s racing.
The future of speedway, the Youth Ministock class, will also be competing for their Manawatu Championship. Youth Ministocks have fostered many speedway competitors into other classes, and the skill of these young drivers is something to admire. Defending champion Cohen Wright will lead the out-of-town drivers whilst local hard-charging drivers 22p Riki-Lee Kauri, 41p Harrison Cheetham, 24p Ashton Dorn, 359p Ethan MacDonald are all in with a chance of taking the championship honours. Local cars will be given preference to make the 48-car field - please register your intention to compete, and any available positions for out-of-town cars will be filled by ballot from online registrations. The final field will be posted later in the week.
Plus your favourite Historic Stockcars from yester-year complete what is set to be a full programme of events! To round out a massive night of Speedway action at the Robertson Prestige International Speedway a huge all in Demolition Derby to finish the night, expect plenty of carnage as over 60 road cars battle it out until only one car is still driving.
