It’ll be a huge night on Saturday, 13th April at the Robertson Prestige International Speedway when the Stockcar and Saloon King of the Area titles are decided, along with the Manawatu Superstock Championship.
Local drivers are still at the forefront of the favourites to take the Stockcar King of the Arena title and the massive $5,000 prizemoney - the largest prize pool on offer during the current season. With stirrers money and championship pride on the line, expect some of the hardest Stockcar racing to be seen this season.
Current 1nz Kyle Rowe has had a stellar season and will be eyeing up another championship podium. Mix in 667p Hamish McLeod, 172p Daniel Burmeister and 45p Aaron Watson, who are all currently at the pointy end of the Travel Managers Season Points chase and in with a real chance of the podium. The battle for this title will be supreme, all tactics will come into play and the best will come out on top!
Interest from out-of-town Stockcar drivers to compete will continue to add to the exciting event that is the Stockcar King of the Arena Championship - the battle between different tracks will add another element of tactics that drivers will need to be aware of. A hard-fought battle will be held to find the top 32 Stockcars for the championship.
The premier class in Speedway will also decide their most coveted local title, the Total Sheetmetals Manawatu Superstock Championship. This title is rich in history, with notable names including Dave Evans, Gary Parkes, Scott Miers, Jordan Dare and defending champion Jack Miers all having etched their names on the silverware, the glory of winning is the ultimate! Robertson Prestige International Speedway is home to many of the country’s fastest and most competitive Superstock drivers who are all in with a chance of winning. Local hard-chargers will all have the title hopes within their grasp, with 88p Jack Miers looking to match Gary Parkes' four-peat record from the 1990/91, 1991/92, 1992/93 and 1993/94 seasons.
A quality field is also expected for the inaugural King of the Arena Saloon Championship, adding to a packed show at the Robertson Prestige International Speedway in the form of Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs racing wheel-to-wheel. The wide tyres and fragile fibreglass bodies add another style of speedway racing which is proving popular not only with drivers but the spectators alike. Current Manawatu Champion 37p Paul Hosking will be looking to add another title to his successful season, but fellow podium placegetter 242p Ashleigh King will be aiming for the top step this time around.
